Nalini Elvino de Sousa
Nalini Elvino de Sousa, was born in Portugal, but lives in Goa for the past 23 years.She graduated inLíngua e Literaturas Modernas – Variante de Estudos Portugueses in Open University of Lisboa, 2007. She was part of the dance group of Goa (Ekvat group) from 1990 to 1998 in Lisbon. She did the MPhil in Língua e Cultura Portuguesa in Goa University, 2000. She is the manager of the NGO Communicare Trust in Goa and co-founder of the production company Lotus Film & TV Production in 2008 also in Goa. She is the co-founder, in Goa, of the publisher Lotus Libri which started its activitiy in 2011. Between 2006 and 2011 directed and produced the serie Contacto Goa for RTPi and RTP Africa with a total of 72 documentaries. In 2009 directed and produced the short documentary Rivers of Goa selected for the Vashuda Award (International Film Festival of India). In 2010 directed and produced the short documentary Water selected for the Vashuda Award (International Film Festival of India). In 2013directed and produced the documentary Dances of Goa that won the audience award in “In the Palace International Short Film Festival” in 2013 (Bulgaria), selected for IFFTAC (international Festival of Films on Tribal, Art & Culture (Bhopal- India) and selected as well for the Heritage Film Festival (Gujarat- India) in 2013.It had 10 exhibitionsin Goa. In 2014 produced the short movie Paklo that won the second prize at the Marathi Film Festival (2013) and had a special exhibition at the International Film Festival of India (2014). In 2018 directed and co-produced the documentary Special Envoy supported by RTP and was released in July 2018. It was selected for the festivals “Docs Without Borders Film Festival” , “Jakarta International Humanitarian and Culture Awards” (Indonesia), “History Film Festival” (Croatia) and won the Merit Award in the category Freedom/ Social Justice/ Protest in “Accolade Global Film Competition”. The documentary had several exhibitions in Mozambique, Goa and Tanzania. It was show in TV Cine from April 2021 till June 2021. In 2021 directed and co-produced the documentary The Club for RTP which has not been released. She is the director and producer since 2016 till date of the serie Hora dos Portugueses in India for RTPi and RTP1. All this body of work connects Goa and Portugal in different contexts and will continue being developed during this Mphil.
